2011 Kia Optima Performance Review - The HeadLine of Optima is a mainstream sedan, so ease-of-use is a priority. The chunky leather-wrapped steering wheel is sporty-feeling, even if the electrically-assisted rack and pinion is too light and not much of a talker. The 2.4-liter direct-injected four-cylinder engine makes 200 hp—just as much as the turbocharged four that's been offered in the Volkswagen Jetta—and comes with stellar EPA ratings of up to 24 mpg city, 35 highway. All the while, ride quality is firm but comfortable, and the Optima's cabin is a quiet, refined place to be.
Kia Optima's groundbreaking spirit will continue under the bonnet with the introduction of new powertrains, which deliver class-leading power with highly competitive fuel economy - and employ engine management systems such as direct injection, multi-point injection and turbo charging to help bring performance to the brand without sacrificing fuel efficiency. Kia's first-ever hybrid car, a new version of Kia Optima, for the North American market, will be available in 2011.
